The Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse

For the past few years, we have had the joy of celebrating the Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse on the stage of Romanian Weekend at The Wharf, alongside hundreds of members of our community. Unfortunately, Romanian Weekend at The Wharf will not take place this year, and our plans to celebrate the event in the same format have been canceled.

In addition, the numerous closures and restrictions in and around the White House and on the National Mall—locations where we have celebrated this special day in previous years—have led us to rethink this year’s event.

But the spirit of the Romanian blouse cannot be put on hold.

We invite you to join us in a virtual celebration of the Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse 2026! This year’s theme is: “From Our Roots, We Grow Wings”

Put on your ie, traditional Romanian shirt, or folk costume and between June 24 and July 5:

Post them on social media and tag Romanians of DC in your post.

Throughout the month of July, we will share the photos we receive and create a virtual album showcasing the beauty, diversity, and enduring spirit of our traditions.

Whether you are in Washington, elsewhere in the United States, Romania, the Republic of Moldova, or anywhere else in the world, we invite you to be part of this global celebration of our cultural heritage.
