Stories in Motion: Chartering Paths in Romanian Cinema

With a wealth of projections focusing on events that continue to shape the contemporary Romanian filmmaking landscape, the 8th edition of the Romanian Film Festival in San Francisco will take place throughout the Bay Area on April 21-23 with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York. The selection features some of the best releases of the past years: Bogdan Apetri’s Miracle (2021) and Unidentified (2020), Alexandru Belc’s Metronom (2022), Radu Jude’s Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (2021), Cristian Mungiu’s RMN (2022) and Paul Negoescu’s Men of Deeds (2022) alongside Radu Jude’s collection of short films reunited under the title Almanac Cinema. Six Short Films (2022), as well as a selection of the newest and most successful student shorts including Theodor Ioniță’s My Sister and I. The festival is presented by the Department of Cinema, San Francisco State University in conjunction with the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York City, with additional support from Stanford University, the Honorary Consulate of Romania in San Francisco, Dana Beldiman – Honorary Consul General, George Roth – Honorary Consul, Steve Kovacs – Professor at San Francisco State University, Allan B. Cruse – Professor Emeritus at University of San Francisco, Casa Romana – Bay Area Romanian community organization, and Schendel Films.
